‘Ite secundo omine!’ is a latin phrase used often by the Heritage Society – translating literally into “Go with the second/favourable omen”. In practice it was said as heartfelt well wish.
The first time this phrase appeared in the context of Melbourne High School was briefly in the 1928 Unicorn magazine – bidding farewell to the exiting class of that year.
The Heritage Society uses ‘Ite secundo omine’ everywhere from advertising to the email signoffs of our committee members. Not only is it a well wish just as intended a century ago, but a homage to Melbourne High’s rich and long legacy of excellence, honouring the thousands upon thousands of bright young men who exited the doors on Spring Street, and then Forrest Hill – later to become leaders and innovators in their fields.
